James Andra Alderman Jr.|
School: Tennessee State University
Major Concentration: Electrical Engineering
Mr. Tennessee State University 2008-2009
Mr. Historically Black College and University 2009-2010
James Andra Alderman Jr. from St. Petersburg, Florida is a recent graduate of Tennessee State University with a Bachelors in Electric Engineering. Alderman has plans to obtain his Masters Degree in Engineering and Business Administration.
James Andra Alderman is building a resume and acquiring the experience needed to have a lucrative career in the defense industry. While an undergraduate at TSU, he was involved in several clubs and organizations on campus. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.-Alpha Theta Chapter, Allure Modeling Troupe (Founder), Student Government Association, Student Union Board of Governors, University Honors Program, D.R.E.A.M. Project (Co-Founder), Aristocrat of Bands and Tennessee State University's Jazz Collegians.
Throughout his life and studies, Alderman has remained grounded and believes that his grandmother, who has been a positive character with guidance, help and love, has had the biggest influence in his life.
During his reign as Mr. Tennessee State University, Alderman took his role seriously. "My responsibility to the university was extremely important. It allowed me to give back to the university in a way that was profound and resolute to my soul... through being a servant leader." Alderman says. "There was no better way to show my university how much I loved it than to give back through serving as Mr. Tennessee State University."
A positive role model is what James Alderman professes to be--even with the images of black men being skewed. "My thoughts on the image of black men in general are... we are who we say we are," Alderman said. "Most people feel that the image of black men is not how it should be and so on. But I feel that there were and are black males who display a great image that still allows the future generation to have hope and someone to follow. Are there enough positive images? No! But that's still no excuse for us to conduct ourselves any less than the men God created us to be." Alderman said.
"This is why I say, 'we are who we say we are,' Alderman explained. "At the end of the day, the quote that I have always lived by is "Dress and have the image for what you want to be, not where you are. If you want to be a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, dress like one."For more information about academics at Tennessee State University ,visit www.tnstate.edu.
