Mr. Prairie View A&M University 2009-2010
Many students have dreams of success, but how do you factor in community responsibility and spiritual growth while reaching for higher heights? Michael A. Love, an architecture major at Prairie View A&M University, knows exactly how, and uses his spirituality to guide his steps.
Crowned Mr. Prairie View A&M University 2009-2010, Love is currently pursuing a position as an architectural intern and hopes to acquire an Architecture license in the very near future.
"I feel that my responsibility to America is to be a positive reflection of my people, and destroy the negative stereotypes and stigmas that surround the Black Male," Love says. "My responsibly as a student leader at my Prairie View is to create a shift in the paradigm of young black males by delivering positive programs & seminars designed to help young men understand self and civic responsibility."
On campus, Love puts his money where his mouth is. He is remains active in several organizations including Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society for Architecture & the
Allied Arts; SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise); NOMAS (National
Organization of Architects-Students); the Campus Activity Board; and the Prairie View A&M Student Government Association.
Love's level-headed demeanor and dedication to responsibility isnít a fluke. His fatherís hard work and dedication to family has been the biggest influence, and inspires Michael to continue on his spiritual journey to success.
"As Ghandi said, it is part of my mission to 'be the change that I want to see'," Love explains. "But most importantly, I want to show the world that 'Prairie View Produces Productive People.' The journey I'm on couldn't have begun without the Lord Jesus Christ, nor can it be completed without him."
In the spirit of continued growth, Love has a philosophy: "In order for us to make a contribution to our communities, to our universities, to our generation, and most importantly the generations to come, we must think of ourselves third: Your Creator is first; your neighbor is next; and you are third."
