School: Georgetown University
Major Concentration: Government
This young man has set his goals to become a major influence in the community. Ian Conyers a native of Detroit, Michigan has plans to be a lawyer in government working on International Trade contracts.
Conyers, currently a Government major at Georgetown University, is striving to be successful in all endeavors. He is actively involved on campus as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Kappa Chi Chapter and continues to carry on the legacy and mission of his organization. Upon graduation he plans to gain work experience and continue his education at a prominent university.
One of Conyers' passions is supporting kids. His heart is set on motivating children to achieve their goals so that they become the prominent leaders of tomorrow.
Conyers already knows what the power of inspiration can do for youth. His father, who has been his greatest influence, helped him discover that inspiring youth to be better will benefit them and the community. "When I was young, my father had a suit and tie government job, but was never too arrogant to take side jobs to make ends meet," Conyers said.
Ian also takes his academic institution seriously and knows he has a responsibility to Georgetown. "I want to represent the schools' Jesuit motto as a 'man for others', and hopefully I will be able to afford someone the opportunity to attend this institution through scholarship," Conyers stated.
As a black man in America, Conyers also understands his role and how it will affect children and our communities. "I want to work hard to protect and continue our way of life, so that my children can enjoy the same freedoms I have," explained Conyers. "We have a unique opportunity to reshape the image of our manhood in America through hard work and genuine will. We must uplift those men who are less fortunate, or unaware of their potential. I think the time has come where we are finally breaking lose of many of the stereotypes that have held us down at times, and although there are definitely more hurdles to come, we are stepping up to the challenge,"
Being a true student of life, Conyers continues to strive for academic excellence and believes that we must support each other to be truly successful. "We should work together to mentor and support as many young men as possible," Conyers said. "That's the only way to really make a difference."
