Feuding Among The Stars

When you think about it, celebrity feuds are just like any other dispute. Somebody said something, or did something to somebody that somebody didn't like. More often than not, somebody's words hurt somebody's feelings, or somebody did something that caused pain and suffering for somebody else.

Just this past weekend, Grammy winning singer-producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds filed a breach of contract lawsuit against songstress Anita Baker. Edmonds claims that Baker owes him fees in excess of $250,000 for cancelled concerts and unpaid royalities, and filed the lawsuit in a Los Angeles Superior Court.

Besides huge six-figure payouts, we've seen arguments over song lyrics, girlfriends, boyfriends, houses, and recording equipment. There have also been a few cat-fights between some high-maintenance queens who simply don't like each other because they both chose to wear the same chiffon gown to an awards show.

These superstar feuds get supersized attention since two (or more) famous names allow human nature to get the best of them -- and there have been some doozies over the past few years.

- Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney (Nothing spectacular about this one. Although MJ did get a piece of Beatle history)

- Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey (Okay - this wasn't really a feud, but it did look good on paper!)

- Tupac vs Biggie (The ultimate of all hip-hop duals ending with the premature deaths of both rappers)

- Jay-Z and R. Kelly (Not sure if anyone knows the deal here, but the relationship was strained after Kelly walked out of their tour)

- 50-Cent and Ja-Rule (50 was beaten and stabbed by folks at Murder Inc., which is Ja-Rule's record label)

- Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman (This hatchet has been recently buried, but it got rather heated during the past 5 years. Why didn't Oprah settle it earlier and just 'buy' Letterman?)

- Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens (Can you say, "EGO"?)

- Naomi Campbell and ... anyone and everyone (Naomi will likely fight anyone or anything that gets in her way. This includes housekeepers, limo drivers, pets, and even a few oak trees.)

For us regular folk, the expression of anger or aggravation with another person might consist of hateful emails, wet toilet tissue on their new Hemi truck, or an evil stare when they walk into a room.

But for those with starry names and deep pocketbooks, the bashing takes place in songs, in music videos, and on news programs.

It really is a bit sad to see two respected recording artists like Edmonds and Baker fighting over money. But they're human beings and most of us get offended when people play with our bank accounts.

Let's just hope this latest feud doesn't end up as the newest "doozie"
