Fats DominoDomino Inducted Into Delta Music Museum Hall of Fame

Blues legend Fats Domino was inducted into the Delta Music Museum Hall of Fame on Saturday April 1, 2006. Although he was unable to attend the event, Domino was honored to receive such an award.

Born Antoine Dominique Domino on February 1928 in New Orleans, LA, he patented a fast-paced piano style that helped defined the "boogie-woogie" era of blues which later had a profound impact on the origins of rock-n-roll.

Before his heyday, Domino played the local club scene where he was discovered by bandleader Dave Bartholomew and producer Lew Chudd of Imperial Records. His first record, "The Fat Man", was a rendition of "Junker's Blues" by Champion Jack Dupree. The album became a hit and eventually sold over a million copies while reaching the top of Billboard's R&B charts.

Domino later became the best-selling African-American singer and pianist of the 1950s and early 1960s, releasing a series of 35 Top 40 singles, including "Whole Lotta Loving" and "Blueberry Hill".

During Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, Domino and his chose to stay at their home in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. Believed to have perished in the floods, Domino was later recognized by his daughter Karen Domino White during CNN news coverage of the aftermath. Domino was rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter and taken to a Baton Rouge shelter.

Domino is scheduled to perform at the New Orleans Jazz Festival (April 28 - 30 and May 5 -7) alongside Bob Dylan, Etta James, Paul Simon, Lionel Richie, Yoland Adams, and Elvis Costello.
