Jamie Foxx Is Catherine Hughes' Guest On "TV One On One"
Silver Spring, MD - TV One marks its first anniversary on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday by presenting an exclusive, wide-ranging, interview with actor/comedian/musician Jamie Foxx, on the new series of specials, TV One On One, hosted by Radio One Chairperson and former radio talk show host Catherine Hughes. The program premieres on the lifestyle and entertainment network for African American adults Monday, January 17 from 9-10 pm (ET), with a repeat showing that night at midnight (ET). Encore presentations of the Foxx interview will air on Thursday, January 20 at 8 and 11 pm, Saturday, January 22 at Noon and 5 pm, Tuesday, January 25 at 8 and 11 pm, Thursday, January 27 at 1 pm, Friday, January 28 at 4 am and Sunday, January 30 at 8 pm and 11 pm. All times are Eastern.

Last month, Foxx became the first person ever to receive three Golden Globe acting nominations in the same year -- all on his 37th birthday! The nominations were for his critically acclaimed portrayal of singer Ray Charles in the film Ray, his co-starring role with Tom Cruise in Collateral and his lead-actor role in the TV movie Redemption, where he starred as Crips co-founder, Stanley "Tookie" Williams.

During the hour, Foxx also plays the piano and is joined for a segment of the interview by special guest Regina King, who plays Margie Hendricks, a member of Ray Charles backup group the Raelettes, in Ray. King talks about what it was like to work with Foxx. "Every day was just a joy. He knows when to be serious, but when we needed the laughter, he was there to bring it!"

In his conversation with Hughes, Foxx describes what it was like to grow up in the tiny Texas town of Terrell, and to be adopted and raised by his rather strict grandmother. "On some summer days, I would play the piano. My grandmother would stay on me and make sure I could make a living a different type of way than they did and by her having that aim, I've stayed pretty much where I need to be as a young man. There are things out there in Hollywood that you could definitely get into but I have a purpose."

Foxx's purposeful life led him to Hollywood where he appeared in the popular television series The Jamie Foxx Show, In Living Color and Roc, and in such top films as Any Given Sunday, Collateral, Ali and his latest, Ray. In Any Given Sunday he also wrote, produced and performed two songs featured on the film's soundtrack, including the title track and the chant My Name is Willie.

But as he tells Hughes, despite all the fame, he maintains his strong spiritual grounding, something he calls his religious spackle. "I come from a Baptist background where it was [really] strict. Then I go to college on a classical piano scholarship with people from all over the world, people who believe in different things. So I would take all of those different things and kind of build my own thing -- Jamie's love -- to where it breaks down the religious barriers that we get caught up in. And I call it religious spackle."

Foxx cites Keenan Ivory Wayans as a role model, one who really ran [In Living Color] perfectly, and he ran it as if it was colorless, but he had it wrapped in blackness. And you saw people in high positions that worked with him that were your same color, but still knew exactly what to do, how to make a hit show.

He calls the first meeting he ever had with Ray Charles beautiful, telling Hughes how they played two pianos together, and when Foxx hit a wrong note, Charles told him, "The notes are right underneath your fingers. All you gotta do is take time out to play the right ones."

The interview with Foxx is the latest in a series of TV One On One specials hosted by Hughes, a well-known former talk show host on WOL-AM. The series features interviews with some of the most intriguing and newsworthy public figures and celebrities in America today.
