Nichole L. WilliamsYoung Black Attorney Making a Difference for Students

Haddonfield, NJ - As an attorney at one of South Jersey's largest law firms, Nichole L. Williams, Esq., MBA, makes an effort not to forget her humble beginnings. She serves on the Board of UrbanPromise Ministries, Inc., a faith-based nonprofit recently featured on Diane Sawyer's 20/20 Special "Waiting for the World to Change." With roots in Camden and the eldest of six children, Ms. Williams believes in the importance of creating opportunities through education. Today, she has a very important message for the students at UrbanPromise - We support you!

The 20/20 special with Diane Sawyer highlighted some of the many hardships facing Camden City's youth including poverty, violence, homelessness and drug-plagued streets. In an effort to help the students living in Camden, Ms. Williams joined forces with Lucky Strikes Lanes, a national bowling alley known for its passion for entertainment and star-studded events calendar, to organize Bowling for UrbanPromise. Lucky Strike Lanes donated the venue for the event and now Ms. Williams hopes to that you will join in her efforts to raise funds.

Bowling for UrbanPromise will benefit the high school students at the UrbanPromise Academy. The event will take place on Thursday, May 3rd (6pm to 10pm) at Lucky Strike Lanes located at 1336 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA. Attendees will enjoy a night of bowling, a silent auction with sports memorabilia provided by BC Sports Collectibles, music, food and drinks. The goal of Bowling for UrbanPromise is to raise much needed funds to support the education of the students, to raise awareness of their struggles and to encourage black professionals and black-owned businesses to support the organization. In one interview, Ms. Williams says "I want these students to know that there are many successful black professionals and business-owners who support them. Growing up in Camden, many of our students do not realize how many blacks have made it into successful positions. I believe this event can allow us to come together and show our students just how much we believe in them."

UrbanPromise has been working with the children of Camden since 1988. The organization serves the youth of Camden City through five major programs, The Camden Forward School (k-8), after school programs, summer camps, the StreetLeaders program which trains teenagers to become leaders within their communities, and the UrbanPromise Academy, a high-school serving students who were not realizing their full potential in the public school system. These programs have made a positive difference in the lives of thousands of Camden children and their families. The UrbanPromise Academy has seen tremendous success in preparing teens for post-secondary educational opportunities. Presently the school has an impressive 95% graduation rate with 90% of the graduates going on to college. This is particularly impressive since many of the students enter the program 2 to 3 grade levels behind. UrbanPromise is making a different in the city of Camden. The school is not only educating our youth, but it also helps the students deve lop the confidence they need to become our future leaders.

Ms. Williams is looking for community-conscious businesses and professionals to support this event through donations and sponsorships. For information on the event or Nichole L. Williams, Esq., MBA, visit www.bowlingforurbanpromise.com
