|Bengie Phillips has been cutting and styling hair for 17 years, learning the trade from his cousin at the age of 14. He started cutting hair throughout high
school. After graduating high school, he attended Davenport, Iowa Barber and Hair Styling College, to gain more knowledge in the hair cutting trade. He also attended educators of Beauty School of Cosmetology, Sterling, IL, and graduated from the Illinois Quad-city Barber and Hair Styling College in Moline, IL.
After Barber College, he joined the Wahl Clipper Corporation as a clipper repair man/assembler. One year later, he was asked to join the Wahl Caravan Team, a group of professionals that travel America showing families how to cut hair at trade shows, malls, corporations, etc… He is currently a member of the Wahl Clipper Innovation Center, as a barber consultant/ prototype tech.
Bengie’s achievements have been rewarding. He has met Marcus Davis, who is the Barber Consultant for the hit movies Barbershop and Barbershop 2: Back in Business.
Among his celebrity patrons is Hall of Famer Dick Butkus of Chicago Bears. Bengie also consults with Scott Melton, an engineer with Wahl Clipper Corporation known as the consultant/inventor of the world’s largest working hair clipper. Bengie Philips is featured in the new Wahl DVD: "How To Cut Hair." He is also featured in the new "Comb-n-Cut" DVD as seen on TV. His work has been featured on clipper packaging and clipper boxes.
Phillips has created a star-studded backing while being featured on Fox News Chicago, and in the Chicago Tribune for his participation in the Saint Baldricks Day Benefit with Wahl Clipper Corp.Established Feb. 8, 2003, Ben Phillips is the successful owner of his own barber/beauty salon, Ben’s Phresh Kutz. He was the first licensed Black barber in Rock Falls, Whiteside County.
