In 1993, Toni Braxton released her self-titled debut album, Toni Braxton, in which the single, "Love Shoulda Brought You Home" caught the R&B world by storm. The album was produced by LaFace/Arista and went number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 where it remained for two weeks.

Queen Latifah started her career beatboxing for the rap group, Ladies Fresh. In 1988, a Newark DJ, DJ Mark the 45 King, gave a demo of Latifah's single, "Princess of the Posse" to Fab Five Freddy. Freddy and Latifah got in the door at Tommy Boy Records and her first album, "All Hail the Queen" was soon released.

From 1993-1998, Latifah had a starring role in the FOX sitcom, Living Single.
